The dunes around Huacachina reach heights of up to 100 meters. They provide the steep slopes needed for the area's popular tubular buggy rides and sandboarding tours.

Foreign visitors must pay a municipal conservation fee of S/ 8 (about $2 USD) to enter this area for tours. You can also hike up the dunes on foot for free.
